Default Does anyone have an OS9 Digidesign asio driver...?

Does anyone out there have an old OS9 Digidesign asio driver they wouldn't mind sharing? I've got someone determined to use an old Mac with a DIGI002 and I never realised it would be so hard to get hold of the bits and pieces to make it all work...?!

Steinberg made an ASIO driver for the Audiomedia III and Digi 001 for Cubase, which can be used with other ASIO programs (like PEAK and some versions of Performer) in Mac OS 9. They moved the download location, breaking the previous links on our site, but I tracked it down today and updated the link on our Utilities and Links to Third Party Software page:
http://www.digidesign.com/download/utility/

ASIO Digidesign Direct I/O for MacOS:
ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Archives/MAC...ectIO5.sit.hqx

Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly where to create the ASIO drivers folder, since this is just the driver, no installer or documentation that I could find on the Steinberg site.

This Answerbase item may help:

ASIO compatibility information for Digi 001 and Audiomedia III hardware (Mac OS only)

The following items must be installed:

-DigiSystem INIT (DSI) v5.1-----System Folder>Extensions Folder
-Direct I/O v5.1 -----System Folder>Extensions Folder
-Digidesign ASIO Direct I/O driver -----ASIO drivers folder
You should already have the Direct I/O file in your extensions folder if you installed Pro Tools 5.1 or 5.1.1. If not, you can get the Direct I/O v5.1 or 5.1.1 from here:
http://www.digidesign.com/download/dio/

You should already have the DSI file in your extensions folder if you installed Pro Tools 5.1 or 5.1.1. If not, you can get the DSI v5.1 or 5.1.1 from here:
http://www.digidesign.com/download/daedsi/

Hope this helps.

I dont think the digi002 had os9 asio drivers. I didnt think the digi002 worked at all under os9. maybe thats just the 002r i was thinking of though.

the digi 002 console does work with os9 but requires a special version of proToolsLE (v5.3.2) which is very dificult to find if you do not already have it
it is the digi002 rack that does not work at all, i guess we can assume that digidesign never bothered to enable it to function in os9

this is info related to using the steinberg asio-direct io driver
basically this bridges asio to direct io
http://web.archive.org/web/200006211...ocards_digi001

re: using the directio/asio driver
u need two things to do this

1) the asio/direct io driver from steinberg
ftp://ftp.steinberg.de/Archives/Hard...ctIO/Mac/OS_9/
simply extract this file, and place in your asio folder for every + any app you wish to use with the digi001

2) the 'bare' digisystem init extension
http://akdownload.digidesign.com/sup...-dsi/dsi50.hqx
u need DigiSystem INIT extension dragged to your system folder
(mac os 9 will place it in the right place for you) reboot to activate once its placed

then the asio driver works as any other asio driver file does in mac os 9
i just did this moments ago and have it working with Ableton Live v4 + the Digi001 on Mac os 9.2.2

one thing to keep in mind is i do not think u can use the digi001 in this manner while u have a working protools install..
so keep this in mind if u already have protools installed there may be complications + Conflicts between this + your normal DAE/DSI files pertaining to your pro tools installation
u would need to deactivate system extensions pertaining to ProTools in order to use this "Bare" version of the digi system init that activates or prepares the digi001 to work with the ASIO/direct io driver
but.. with some tinkering u may be able to find a way to get both to work at the same time... im not sure

but the easiest workaround (for me) is to have two seperate mac os 9 partitions, each with its own install, and switch between them for using ASIO vs using DAE
and simply reboot to use pro tools, and then reboot back to use Cubase/Ableton etc
Logic 4/5/6 have DirectIO drivers so all of this special DIRECTIO/ASIO stuff is not neccessary
(more info on that here : http://www.digitalprosound.com/Htm/A...11_digi001.htm)
