Time before real-time edits take place?
Just curious if anyone else has this problem.
My system used to be a lot more responsive before I did the XP update. If I was playing a wave file, and say I double clicked the track in the edit window, and deleted it while it was only half-way through, almost instantly would the audio stop coming through the speakers; like the file was really cut at that moment. Now, if I do the same test, it takes almost 12 seconds before the computer recognizes that the audio is no longer there, and THEN it will cut the track. What about you others? This is the same with something like changing the audio volume level in the Edit window with the " ] " tool(forgot what its called).

Re: Time before real-time edits take place?
Let me clarify, if I delete the track while in playback, the track will indeed delete, but the audio will play as if the track was still there for 12 more seconds before it cuts the audio for that track.

Re: Time before real-time edits take place?
I don't know, CP...I'm still in 5.1/ME, and if I make changes while the tracks playing, I'm pretty sure PT doesn't respond until I stop the track.
For instance, as it's going along, I will see a small sample coming up that I know I want deleted before it gets there, so I'll double click it, delete it (still rolling toward it). But though it's visually gone, I still hear it, until I stop, and hit Play again. So, hmmmm....

as far as performance, it was pretty instant, i'd say, 1 or 2 seconds. You are on the right track though; I dont know If I explained it clearly enough or not, but you got what I was trying to convey.

Re: Time before real-time edits take place?
This will depend on your buffer setting. In 5.3.1 you now have the option of 2048 samples. In 5.x.x the maximum buffer size was 1024 samples.
So, if you happen to be using a 2048 sample buffer while editing/mixing you'll find the latency to be doubled on hearing live edits compared to the 1024 sample buffer in earlier versions. If you are using smaller buffers you may want to check your DAE buffer setting, you might be able to use a smaller buffer if you had a fast machine. Cheers, Marcus |

Re: Time before real-time edits take place?
I knew what you meant, but I was saying that it seemed to be normal for it to pause before reacting (even in 5.1). But, I've never needed to do what you described doing, and I don't have XP.
Tell ya what I do have, and that's some Cheeto's.

Hmmmm. My 001 and mix+ system both do what you're explaining CP, and always have.
