Default Regios work around in PT8

So, I just made the jump. I was working with some midi last night, and was really happy with the new features with the exception of two things. Maybe someone can set me straight on how to get it work the way it was in 7.4.

First, if Im in notes mode on a midi track, and im in grid mode, I can't use the selector tool to grab a section of grid time. It just goes right to the click and drag selector. Anyone know if there is a work around for this.

Also, when using the click and drag selector tool, all the notes sound as I select them. Is there any way I can stop the notes from playing as I select them. Its damn hard on the ears hearing an entire 2 min peformance in 1 second and I drag down a select everything. Or to hear a ton of drum hits all at once as I select them.

Thanks for any info guys! I do appreciate it.

Nick

Is the Selector tool selected?

And using the Pro Tools 8 Reference Guide, lookup 'Play MIDI Notes While Editing'.

I was actualy using the "Multi Tool". The the older version used to be able to just highlight a region by grid or slip when in this mode. Now its just the click and drag tool. I'm very used to being able to work on midi and then go back a few bars and grab a 2 bar section and copy it, or duplicate it. Now I have to go into regions mode to make this happen. Any thoughts?

I will check the refrence guide tomorrow.

Thanks so much for the help!!!

You mean the Smart tool is making a Marquee selection and you want a edit selection. Hold a modifier, on PC the Selector tool is enabled by holding Alt.
