Back in the olden dayz.....
Sort of an off topic post, but I hope to keep this relevent at least to recording.
I am looking about my growing tangle of new audio devices, pleased with what it is becoming, but some things just arent what they used to be... back in "the day". I miss some old analogue devices and wonder what good they would be to me now. For instance, the first studio I ever worked in actually had an oscilloscope, which was supposed to point out phase changes in music. Something to do with keeping the cutting stylus to keep from digging into the master disc if a boom happened on the recording... albums,... yuck! He also had this reverb unit that was, to me, just awesome. It had to be mounted on a heavy block of concrete to keep it totally stable because it had a billion springs in it that would rattle if you walked. I can't remember what type it was except that it was big, blue, and cumbersome. One other thing was this archeaic programmable Roland mixing board that you could make it automix... a breeze in protools, but all 8 channels of this device was a wonderful thing at the time... Then there were cutting blocks. I never had the guts, personally. I know there is something about vintage equipment that I find attractive...why? Kev

Re: Back in the olden dayz.....
God, my old day where a Mac Plus Roland JV 30 and midi or using a EPS without a computer (hell). Funny I use a ASR X now, with my Triton. I'm still a Mac Addict but I won't even touch Midi. I hated midi then and I hate it now. Thank god for Pro Tools.
