Default Re: I want to buy a MIDI keyboard controller

There are many contradicting polls regarding which is "the best" weighted 88-key controller, and some of the articles weigh (pun intended) the keyboard itself and others the stuff that comes with it. If you want "everything" you better prepare to pay over a grand, but if you only need weighted keyboard even a (relatively) cheap M-Audio Hammer 88 will do.

Very rarely I have seen a pianist who needs all the whizbang and weighed keyboard together.

And you'd be out the money in a few months. They're fragile and their acoustically noisy.

All weighed keyboards are noisy, but sure, as always more money will give you better product (?) and if not at least you are more happy with it.

It's not just the weighted keyboards but all M-Audio keyboards can be very loud acoustically if not immediately but shortly down the road.

Well maybe I am deaf of something but I have not noticed. If you have had bad luck, I am sorry.

More of a concern in a studio obviously (and a non-issue if you are on headphones), but on stage where there is about 85dB or louder monitoring.. who cares about some action noise

Ever hear how loud a real concert grand piano is? Unless it's been supremely well maintained they are horrid. And the pedals are the loudest of all.

Some VI such as Ivory even have a "pedal noise" setting

I’m finally getting my Roland A-88 into the mix. It plays wonderfully I think.

I’ll be using it for playing VSTs more than controlling transport functions.

So now I'm really on the fence...Do I want a keyboard MIDI controller? or Do I want a wind instrument MIDI controller, like a EWI USB?

The answer obviously, is yes, I want both. But I don't want to buy both at the same time.

I'm starting to lean towards the EWI USB, because it will be easier to hide from my wife, and easier to take on tour with me when I go back out.
