Actually it's not difficult at all what justDoug is doing - been doing just that on my 2012 Mac cheesegrater. One partition for OSX 10.10.5 and one for OSX 10.12.6. Two partitions is easy - try three I had that going on my late iMac. Talk about a nightmare.
