Default MIDI Instrument multi out: only solo entire instrument?

I have just purchased SSD 5.5, and got going with multi outs like:

https://support.stevenslatedrums.com...ools-with-SSD5

I gathered the SSD instrument track and all aux in/ out tracks in a separate drums routing folder, because I like using routing folders. However I notice that soloing any of the Aux tracks inside the routing folder, returns all of the multi outs from the SSD instrument. The solo button on any of the aux tracks inside the routing folder works as a solo button for the entire SSD instrument. This goes for both mono and stereo auxes.

If I move one of the aux tracks outside of the routing folder, say the Snare top aux, and set output to for example my MIX aux, I can solo that specfic track as expected.

SSD support says there are some issues with Pro Tools and mono multi outs, though I suspect this has to do with how soloing works inside the routing folder.

Appreciate any insight, cheers!

EDIT: It turns out that if I move several tracks out of the routing folder, and set their output to the MIX aux, the same problem occurs. The solo button on any drum aux solos the SSD instrument, not the individual outputs.

I also tried Addictive Drums 2 as an instrument, and it turns out to be the same problem. Soloing an Instrument Aux track solos the entire instrument. Now their support offered the solution of setting up Audio tracks instead of Aux tracks, and activating Input monitoring. That solves the soloing problem, but it seems that I am not able to bounce or commit those instrument audio tracks directly, rather that I have to record them in real time.

Can anyone tell if this (Instrument multi out aux track solo) behavior is a bug or a feature in Pro Tools?

[edit: and for anybody else reading this thread of course I am totally wrong here… it’s operating as intended as explained below by clipGain]

And what *exact* version of Pro Tools are you using?

I suspect Pro tools 2024.10.1 is broken. Maybe yet another thing Avid broke while making supposed improvements. Thank God they have slowed down this insane sloppy development of wrecking their own product with each update.

Soloing as you describe works fine for me with Superior drummer in Pro Tools 2024.3 but not with 2024.10.1. I have not tested other releases.

This all works as expected on 2024.3 regardless of if the Aux inputs getting the multi-outpus are in a routing folder or not, and if in a routing folder regardless of if their outputs pass though that folder's AUX or direct to physical outputs, and regardless of the solo mode... everything works exactly as expected.

And then on 2024.10.1 I see exactly what you describe.

And I'm using stereo multi-output in SD, so seemingly nothing to do with mono multi-outputs like you are being told by SSD support. Maybe they are talking about a different bug in Pro Tools, heck there are enough of them...

Ah sorry I am using 2024.10.2. I just did not think of the possibility that this is a recently broken feature, also known as a software regression. I have reported this behavior as a bug, attaching a toy session for reproduction of the bug.

Thanks Darryl for being supportive :)

I think I just had quite the public lesson of Solo Safe in Pro Tools, involving no less than 3 support departments, and this forum. I even co-installed 2024.3 on request from Avid support!

When I created those Aux tracks they were automatically solo-safed. Cmd-click on the greyed out solo buttons in the aux tracks solves the problem.

Funny thing is that the greyed out solo buttons are visible in all screen shots I have sent :)

Noob out.

Doh. Of course. Now I'm trying to work out what the heck I did to confuse myself between both versiosn of Pro Tools. I'm sure I unintentionally got my aux out of solo safe mode or created them not in solo safe mode but I don't know of any way of doing the later.

I don't recall say Option-Command clicked on a solo button and took everything out of solo safe but maybe I did, I was clearly not even thinking of solo-safe, grrr.

Yeah I feel much silliness for leading you astray with seemingly weird software behavior, sorry for that.

I did not think of solo safe because I did not understand it, and I did not understand it because I never understood why solo safe exists, even after reading about it.
