Default Neumann TLM-103

I just bought one for $400.00. A guy needed the money. I plugged it in and it works fine. What r ur opinions on this mic? Did I get a good deal? What do you use it for in your studios often?

I also need a shockmount at a discount price anywhere you know I can get one for less than $289 (not ebay)

I am just wondering what applications you guys have had major success using it in applications. I know it seems to give me a very high SPL.

Ac gtr and similar stringed instruments, top half of piano, drum OH, conga, upright bass(!!!), room ambi, voiceover (but usually NOT for sung vocals). One of my most used mics. Get a good mic-pre, of course. Google for a cheaper shockmount. It sounds like a U87 but with more gain and less noise. Great deal !!!

Where I work we do lots of voice over/interview/spoken word work, and the TLM-103s are our default mics. They seem to be perfect for most voices, esp when there's a tube somewhere in the chain. I have also used a pair for stereo capture of a Christmas concert with choir, strings, organ, brass, and percussion - sounded lovely - open, smooth, airy, solid, everything you want good acoustic sound to be.

I use it every other day for VO. Its very good on male vocals, and @ a very good price too :).
Used it on kik drum a few times - it can handle it very well.

Yeah, as has been said, that's a really good deal and it's a good VO mic. One of the most commonly used for VO.
