I don't know about you guys, but my hole is deep enough. It seems like everyday I'm hit with ads, articles, and reviews that make you feel like "you must have this" or "without this you're way behind." It's like Pokemon (however you spell it) for adults. Binary crack, electronic smack, whatever.

Oh, well. Time to check out Sweetwater!

I feel you bro! I'm probably at around $30,000 in the studio as we speak. I have a vintage synth fetish which doesn't help one bit! computer after computer, another sound card, I NEED to have that lexicon reverb, ah, that 19" flat screen looks nice! so does that new athlon 64m notebook... [bleep] never ends.... oh well

Nah. I can't do that. I guess my post shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's one of those things I laugh at with a tear in my eye. Believe me - I love my gear. I just hate balancing everything out (budgeting). It really wouldn't take too much more to make me happy, but there are priorities (wife, mortgage, car, etc.). I'm sure I'm not alone in this boat.

I've figured it this way a long time ago ;

Doing my engineering/production work is first priority for life. Just like drumming was 20 years ago...It's like love, dedication, brotherhood in blood.
I'll accept living in minimal comfort and not getting rich, as long as I'm able to do what I love.
Unfortunately, one will need gear to stay afloat. I was and still dedicating 90% of my audio generated income back to my business. Not more !!
Please remember the most important aspect though : You and your talent are way more valuable than wires and switches.

Yes...the wife..
I guess a great, supporting partner should also be part of above equation.
Most creative types just simply pack it in, once married. I guess I'm a bit lucky in this department, she doesn't 100% agree of course, but a new studio toy always comes before luxury items at our casa.
Then we just say "Hello ..[insert first name here]" for a couple of days. Things eventually smooth out over time
...until the next piece of gear comes in the picture
