Omni HD S/PDIF output not working
Does anyone know how to use an Omni HD?
I mean really. Mastered the i/o? I'm having what seems to be a simple hiccup. I've been using the Omni for a year or two. No problem using a simple analog 1-2 i/o. Using the Omni to monitor an analog stereo bus from Pro Tools. Today I tried to get the S/PDIF i/o working along with the analog i/o. Can anyone shed some light on this dim bulb? Thanks

Re: Omni HD S/PDIF output not working
For this to work, you have to select Optical SPDIF as well as have at least one monitor set up.

Re: Omni HD S/PDIF output not working
Hi Ryan.
Thank you for replying. I've been having a tough time getting what seems to be something very simple to work. Every time I make a change to the Omni hardware setup that changes the i/o in my session and I lose my analog monitoring path. I know the two are connected and I've obviously set this up wrong from the beginning. What does your PT i/o look like? I'm attaching the same screen shots of my setup. I'm just using i/o 1-2 and that works fine as long as NO monitor path is selected in the Omni setup. I'm also using a Dangerous 2-Bus+ which means I create a bus to send to the audio track I'm recording my mix to. That also means that track output needs to be the input of that bus... I'll attach a shot of that as well. All I'm additionally trying to do now is listen to the digital output of my computer for Spotify, YouTube, etc... I also thought I could send that S/PDIF output (optical or coax) to another converter to compare the output of the Omni and the 2nd converter. Optical S/PDIF out from the computer shows up wherever I assign that input. I haven't figured out how to listen to that signal though. It doesn't show up on any output analog or digital, no matter how or what assignments I make. And while I'm making those changes, it changes the session i/o which means I'm constantly fixing things. I obviously do not know what I'm doing here and need some help. Screen shots attached below. btw... How did you create multiple paths on output 7-8 of your Omni? AQ.

Re: Omni HD S/PDIF output not working
Reading the manual again, now carefully, I did indeed setup my templates with only the analog i/o in mind.
Changing that now means creating a new template or two, unless someone has a better solution. From the manual... Mono and stereo Monitor paths are always automatically assigned to the first Output selector (Pro Tools channel outputs 1–2) and cannot be changed. Larger Monitor path formats similarly use subsequent Outputs as needed (depending on the channel width of the Monitor path). Physical outputs (such as “Analog 1–2”) are unavailable when they are assigned to Monitor (but Pro Tools output channels assigned to “Monitor” sound through the corresponding physical outputs). Anyone?

Re: Omni HD S/PDIF output not working
Well, after many hours of patching and repatching both analog and digitally I’ve realized this unit has some serious i/o limitations all based on the convoluted hardware setup.
And incredibly pour metering. I did get the digital outputs working only to find out there is only digital input metering. No digital output metering. Why is that? It’s too bad. I had Black Lion do a full A/D D/A modification to this and it really does sound good now. Before, not so good. Live and learn. C’est la vie. Gonna sell it and find something else. Maybe a Lynx Aurora.

Re: Omni HD S/PDIF output not working
The HD OMNI's limitations have been well known for a while.
