Michael,

PE6R4 is an older version. This is an obsolete model.
The newer version is PE6R4-I model.

PE6R4-I, here is the video

Thank you Xmen -- so I've heard. Other than the type of cable, I don't really see the difference? I also haven't heard anything that would make me think it won't work with my system (2008 Harpertown) just as well as the newer one would. If you know any details to the contrary, I would appreciate hearing it.

And did you have one you wanted to sell?

Thank you!

There should be a model number on the serial number identification plate which is probably on the back or the bottom of the unit.

Michael,

both models will work just fine, the only difference between them is the host card and cable. The PE6R4-I is the newer one but the older PE6R4 is the one Digidesign (Avid) approved officially. I once had the PE6R4-I and it worked great. Just make sure your HD core card is NOT a revision K card as this one would need fixing from Avid which costs several hundered dollars. The revision K cards throw DAE errors -1115.

Thanks Oliver -- so is there any difference in speed between the R4 and R4-i? I read something that said the R4-i will do x8 but the R4 only does x4? I don't even know that that means but it sounds like it could be a concern? Do you know anything about that?

Thanks again!
Michael

No I don't Michael. I would contact Magma regarding this. Of course it is always best to buy the latest model, the PE6R4-I in this case, regardless if new or 2nd hand but if you come across a PE6R4 cheap I would go for it in case you intend to use it for Pro Tools only.
