Default 32-Bit Windows XP Virtual Machine issues
Hi,

I have a brand new Dell Windows 7 64-bit desktop computer.
I have PT LE 8 (32-bit) and I don't want to pay the $400 to upgrade
to PT LE 10 (64-bit)
My friend installed a Windows XP 32-bit virtual machine on my Dell.
I installed PT LE 8 and it seemed to install ok.
But I click on it and it won't load.
Anyone with virtual machine experience?

My understanding is that you can't run Pro Tools from a virtual machine. As I recall there are some functions it needs to access that can't be done from a VM. I have not tried this myself for what it worth. Regarding the 399.00 cross grade. Opinions will very but many users here will probably agree its money that's very well spent in regards to the features added in the last three versions. If you can cobble up the dough I think you might agree.

My advice would be to buy a iLok2 and trial the 30 day PT11 trial.

As has been discussed on DUC before (which you could search for). This is a waste of time and not something you want to do.

All "functions" of Windows are available in a typical virtual machine. The issue is high and highly variable latency inside a virtual machine. Pro Tools is a real-time, highly latency sensitive system, just not something to ever run in a virtual machine.

LE 8.0.5 runs fine on Windows 7 64 bit Virtual Machine would be awful, if it worked at all. Way to much stuff going on "behind the scenes".
