PT Freezes ... too often! (MP9,FTP, Win7 64)

Hey Guys!

I bought Pro Tools MP 9 a while ago and im really excited about it.
Unfortunately it is just doing one thing: crashing all the time!
Ive optmized my PC as described in the Guide but everytime I start PT or try to open a Session is a 50/50 Chance that it freezes.
(Even excessive praying while loading didnt seem to help! )

Either it freezes before the startup screen (where you can select a session or crwate a new one) or while loading a Session.
Pressing "Shift" to open a Session with all Plugins deactivated seems to help sometimes. But not if there were no plugins in the session or if it freezes before i am able to select them.

I use MP 9.0.5, the latest FTP Driver (6.0.7 or so) and Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Any help is greatly appreciated, as for me PT is nearly unusable.

I think this is the problem. 5400 RPM. You should have 7200 RPM minimum.

hey, thanks for the quick replys.

I am already running PT as Administrator (this was part of the Widnows Optimisation Guide).
I only have a very slow External Hard Drive so I'm recordng to a second Partition.
Btw: Is USB 2.0 even fast enough to record flawless on an external HDD?


After formatting and reinstalling my system Pro Tools worked very well today.
But I dont have any Midi Hardware or Plugins installed or used ...
(I use an MPD24, the Komplete Players and FL Studio via Rewire)

I'll give it some trys as i dont expect my problems to be solved yet.
And it was not the first time i resetted my whole system just for Pro Tools.
Until then, any hints and tips are greatly appreciated ;-)

As i wrote it in my first post, PT and the FTP are up to date, so is my windows.
IE 9 is NOT installed (i read somewhere that it can cause problems with the FTP)

Well, finally NOT TOUCHING ANYTHING AT ALL while Pro Tools loads up
combined with A LOT OF PATIENCE seems to be THE insider's tip for a well working Pro Tools Environment in my Case

after i sold my PT MP9 I came back to it after half a year and *surprise* i am still experiencing the same problems over and over again.
Crashes, Hangups, Total System Freeze ... how do I find out WHAT the Problem is that causes all these issues?
(Every single Program I have on my MAchine works absolutely FINE ... except Pro Tools)

System Report is still up to date except the fact, that I doubled my RAM.
