I am thinking this is a bug.
I am aligning a midi piano part to the tempo map using Beat Detective. With Audio files, if you capture the selection, Analyze and bring up the sensitivity, you can delete and move the analysis markers that allow you to more quickly align the part to the tempo map. However, when you switch the operation to MIDI, Capture Selection, Analyze and then bring up the sensitivity, the markers appear, but I can't seem to be able to edit them at all. I can't delete or move markers that are in the wrong place. Is there a different way to edit these? Or is this just buggy or not developed yet in Pro Tools? Thanks.

I have a similar problem: I've done a free tempo (but rhythmic) piano piece and wish to extract tempo information from it so I can set a master tempo track. Not only can I not get Beat Detective to do this but seems impossible to move the markers that it does come up with. This seems such a rudimentary thing to me so either I just haven't grasped some basic BD facet or BD is missing a major piece of functionality. Answers, anybody?

Use Tab to transient and Identify Beat (Command-I). Tab to the first beat 1, hit Command-I, and tell PT that this is for instance Bar 10 | Beat 1 | Tick 000. Continue with tabbing to beat 1 in every bar, Identify beat, and tell PT which Bar|Beat|Tick you're at.

Thanks for that advice. I actually managed to accomplish the desired effect by bouncing a MIDI click track to audio and BD'ing it that way. Rather convoluted but BD seems to work better on audio - it couldn't detect even the MIDI click track correctly. Will try the above next time.

Tried again using Tab-to-transient and it is not usable - I just get a totally inappropriate tempo and using the Identify Beat markers don't insert where I request.

Be sure that you are using the downbeat of the next measure when you use Identify Beat. Say you're trying for the tempo of an 8 bar section. The beat marker should be placed at the downbeat of bar 9|1|000. This way the system knows to include all of bar 8. On a freely played piano piece you might have to break it down to fairly small segments, but you'll be able to create a tempo map that will work.

That is exactly what I've been doing. If I Command-I the first MIDI event (note) of a bar and then select the bar I want it to be the marker doesn't get inserted where I chose, it invariably moves. If I make a selection from bar 1 beat 1 to bar 2 beat 1 of my piece and Command-I, insert the relevant markers I want and apply, it will not place the bar/beat markers where I selected. This shouldn't be rocket science, it should just work - but it doesn't appear to. At least not the way I'm doing it. As I'm attending a Digidesign product presentation in the not too distant future I'll be attempting to get one of the on-hand specialists to demonstrate whether this is actually possible with PT 8.

Bump this old Thread because I have the same problem with PT 12.1 HD: when I beat detective a midi clip I can't add, delete or move the markers that BD has set. any Ideas on that ?
