Default Digital Consoles v Analog Console using 888-24

Looking into buying a console......

I have an 888 24 and am thinking of buying a Spirit 328 and it's AES EBU option therefore using the converters on the desk. It seems a bit of a waste as the converters on the 888 24 are good and I am sure the ones on the spirit are good (but not as good).

Should I buy a good quality analogue mixing console instead ? I was thinking maybe the Mackie 8 Bus analog or Allen and Heath GS3000. Any suggestions welcome.

Lastly should I hold off for a Mackie Digital 8 Bus ? A lot more expensive....but maybe worth the wait.

With the Spirit 328 I was thinking about getting an 882 20 for inserts into Pro Tools. How does this work out ?

I am currently not using a desk at all. All my inputs go into Pro Tools via a 1622 and an ADAT bridge and inserts through the 888 24 which I know is not ideal. I was hoping to set up a mixerless studio and get a HUI but I miss being able to match levels using gain controls on a mixing console, not to mention EQ. Difficult to do all this on one screen.

I use a sawtooth G4 and it doesn't look good for dual monitor set ups. I got my mix plus in December and have decided against expanding my system with more i/o cards, interfaces etc. (and a chassis) until issues of PCI bandwith and dual monitors are resolved......

Lastly I have been offered a cheap 9600 would this be a better alternative to a G4 ?

Dual monitors, a HUI and mix card might save the day.....
