Default Help with 003 Rack and Macbook Pro

Hello - Newbie here, I would greatly appreciate some help/info.
I am trying to continue using my old 003 Rack for a bit with my MacBook Pro in my band's rehearsal space before a hardware upgrade. I formally used it with a MacPro running ProTools 8 to record acoustic guitar at home.

My MacBook Pro is running Yosemite and ProTools 8 won't load on it.
So I am trying to use the 003 Rack with Garage Band just to do rough demo tracks and ideas. I found what seems to be the most recent 003 driver online and installed it. This seemed to go fine. I selected the 003 as a sound input in system preferences and launched Garage Band. In Garage Band preferences I selected Digidesign HW (003) as the audio input. I created a track and went to the input source where 18 mono inputs show up (and 9 stereo pairs). This seems a bit odd as the 003 has 8 inputs. No matter which one I select, the recording level remains grayed out. When I bring up the Digidesign Core Audio Manager it shows the Digi 003 Connected @ 44.1k, Channels 10 in / 10 out and 1 attached client with a buffer size of 128.
Try as I might I cannot seem to get a signal into Garage Band form the 003.
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I should have mentioned I had to acquire a Firewire cable with a Firewire 400 plug on the 003 end and a Firewire 800 plug on the end going into my Macbook Pro. Hopefully this isn't the issue. I wasn't able to find much clear info on this online prior to this adventure.

Just curious, but if you go to your io and set it back to default?
Can you hear playback from say iTunes?

Pro tools 10 isnt even supported on Mavericks. And you want pro tools 8 LE to work on Yosemite????

Honestly, Pro tools 10 wont work on Yosemite, Pro tools 11 hasnt been tested or officially supported on Yosemite yet.

Pro tools 8 is not supported past Snow leopard ( 10.6).

So since then pro tools 9, 10 and 11 have been released. And software since then is Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks and now Yosemite.

If you want pro tools 8 to work, you need to go back to Lion at a minimum and Snow leopard at best.

i reread my post and realized you are just trying to get the 003 to work. Not pro tools 8.

I doubt the drivers for the 003r will work with Yosemite. They have been super buggy with Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks.

I can get the driver for 10 to work on mavericks unsupported, but not the 11 driver that should work with mavericks. The 9 driver will not work at all nor will the 8 driver.

trying to get the 003r to work with Yosemite with any driver is probably not going to happen.

Thank you for the responses, yeah I knew trying to get the 003r to talk to my Macbook Pro with Yosemite was a hail mary, but I thought I would try. It works fine with my Mac tower & system 10.8.
