Default MBox and PodXT compatibility problems?

Hi all,

Just got my system and I'm stumbling through manuals. Had my first bump in the road last night when recording through my Pod to MBox. Attatched the left and right outputs via TRS to source 1 and 2, selected line level on the Box, created a new stereo track, messed around with my levels and such on the Pod while monitoring through the headphone output on the Box with the knob all the way over to the input side. Record enabled the stereo tracks and they appeared to be hot but not clipping, hit the spacebar and played a simple track. When I went for playback I turned the knob on the Box to the playback side and was greeted with a barrage of distorted, clipping, diginoise junk. What sounded great going to the Laptop sounded like absolute poo-poo on the way back.

The question I have is, what is going on here? Did I miss a step? I thought it had something to do with the Pod so I thumbed through its manual and my connections were fine. To prove another theory, I plugged my guitar straight into the Box, selected inst input, adjusted the level and the same thing happened. Fine on the way into the headphones with the knob on the input side, poo-poo when I rolled the knob towards the playback side. Needless the say it's not the Pod that's the problem.

Is my MBox fried? Ah!

I'd rather not try to approach Digidesign, I'm afraid I'll be on the phone for 6 hours and have to pay some technical support fee.
Thus, I'd like to consult my comrades on the D-Board first.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you just got the system, register and you get FREE help for 90 days or so. I called last night and even though I am over my support days, they did help. I was on hold about 15m, called around 4pm CST.

What pickups do you have? I heard of problems with EMGs. Too much gain. Humbuckers work fine with me on a rack. PodXT and VOX Tonelab sound identical from input to output.

EMGs are hot no doubt, but you wouldn't see that kindof behaviour. In fact, my 81s sound great going into a PodXT Pro into a 002r. The problem will lie elsewhere...

fiddle with the buffer setting, sometimes my mbox has a similair problem. All I do to fix it is switch do a different Buffer size then switch back. You don't have to reboot.

Im not sure if its anything to do with disk streaming load because it has happened to me on a new session before.

if the above doesn't help then maybe you have a more serious problem.
