Default PT 8.1.1 and PT 9 Optimal OSX Version

Using an HD2 system on Mac OSX, currently @ 10.6.8, 20GBRAM, WavesPlatinum8.0

Which is the optimal OSX versions to run PT8.1.1 (old reliable), and if I do the software update to PT9, which is the best OSX to utilize ?

As far as I can remember, 10.6.8 and PT8.1.1 is the sweet spot (combined with Waves V8 that you have). You don't gain anything by upgrading to PT9. If you really want/need to upgrade, go for PT10 which has great new features.

@ PT10 and updated OSX (somewhere beyond 10.6.8), would Waves V8.0 still work ?

PT10 works wonderfully with up to Mountain Lion 10.8.4, but unfortunately Waves V8 is only qualified for Lion (10.7) so you should WUP it to V9 to get iLok free.

I'm not saying V8 definitely will not work on Mountain Lion, but I have not tested it nor does Waves support it.

I have PT9 ready to install for years, however 8.1.1 has been so good to me.

So... PT10, Waves V9 and OSX 10.8.4 would be my next most reliable jump?

Do you know the upgrade cost from PTHD9 bundle to PTHD10?

I really believe you should stay with PT8 until you're comfortable upgrading to PT10 and Waves V9.

You cannot buy a PT10 upgrade anymore, but if you upgrade to PT11 they will give you a PT10/PT11 license bundle. Unfortunately that upgrade costs more than the PT9-->PT10 upgrade used to cost before PT11 release. I believe the PT9HD to PT11HD upgrade costs 999 dollars.

EDIT:
On another note, I'm not so sure about PT10/PT11 license bundle if you're upgrading from a TDM system which won't go past PT10. Call your sales rep and ask about your options.

We stayed on PT9HD and Waves 8 on 10.6.8 for almost 2 yrs and it was the most problem free setup ever

Yes PT11HD is awesome and cool-ish but lots of small bugs and weird crashes so if I were you I would do one of two things:

1. Stay on the setup you have as it works great.
2. Go install PT9 and Stay on 10.6.8 with Waves either 8 or update to 9.

Any if these 2 configs are stable as can be and as soon as you jump onto 10-11 you will have to leave lots of plugins behind and as of right now you might have issues with stability etc..

IMHO stay put or install PT9 and leave everything else as is. Please make a complete BACK-UP of your working system whatever you decide to do so you can revert back to a working setup in a flash should anything go awry.

Best Regards
Christopher

Cool to hear PT9 is working great.

However, from my stance, I have had a whole lot more stable systems running PT8.1.1 compared to PT9. What did PT9 give me as a HD user? Nothing, except new I/O setup window. That release was all about not requiring Digidesign/Avid branded interface with PT.

If you have such interface, and the OP has, that is my not so humble opinion that you should stay using PT8.1.1/OSX10.6.8 because next real step up would be PT10 and its requirements.

--- But what do I know, I have only used PT since 5.1 so most of it is a mystery
