Can I use Carbon ADAT OUT with 8 Preamps Simultaneously

Hi All,

I'm aware that the DB25 I/O cannot be used simultaneously with the 8 preamp inputs. My question is can I send 16 outputs via ADAT and have it come in and record via the 8 preamps ?

I will send signals out via ADAT to outboard gear for processing via passive summing and bring the signal back into protools that is why I need 35 DB gain via the preamp inputs but need them both at the same time.

Your question isn't entirely clear.

Can you go out of 16 ADAT channels and come back into 16 line inputs - no, the Carbon only has 8 line inputs.
Can you go out of 16 ADAT channels an come back into 8 line inputs - yes, assuming you are DA converting those 16 channels external to the Carbon, summing in analog, then bringing only 8 or fewer channels into the Carbon.
Can you go out of 16 ADAT channels and come back into 16 ADAT channels - yes, assuming all your conversion DAC and ADC is going on externally to the Carbon.

Of course, if you use 16 ADAT channels you are limited to 44.1 and 48KHz.

There will be a delay between the output and the input so any summing you record will be later than the output tracks - I'm guessing about 4ms at 48KHz. The actual round-trip delay is about 8ms.

Can you go out of 8 ADAT channels and come back into 8 line inputs - yes, the Carbon only has 8 line inputs.

Yes, that is correct, you can go out of 8 ADAT channels and bring 8 analog channels in (e.g. from a summing box or outboard) at the same time.
