Default Warning/Advice When Buying Voice Packs

Just wanted to share my experience with Avid's voice packs as a warning so others don't get the awful Avid experience I had.
  1. Avid makes ZERO effort in their store to help you buy them.

Here is the link to them (You really have to google them to find them).

  2. Avid misleads you about how to buy multiple voice packs.

Their sales page says "To add multiple packs to cart, click Add to cart for each item individually."

You can not. The cart will never update with more than 1 voice pack. This means to buy 3 voice packs, you must make 3 completely separate purchase transactions. Going through their store purchase process is tedious already. Having to do it 3 times in a row, excruciating.

  3. Avid's a bit misleading about what you're buying with their month-to-month voice packs.

    They have 3 pricing options:
    1 Year sub - paid monthly. 14.99
    1 Year sub - paid upfront. 149.99
Monthly sub - paid monthly. 16.99 "Enjoy the flexibility and freedom of a month-to-month plan"

I only needed the voice pack for 1 project, for 1 month. So I bought the more expensive month-to-month option. What Avid does not tell you ANYWHERE, is that the month-to-month plan is recurring and auto-billed. Avid will not email you to warn you that your month is up and you are about to be auto-billed for another month, giving you the chance to cancel the subscription before the next billing cycle. You will, however, get an email letting you know you've already been billed for another month (whether you wanted that or not) and that it's non-refundable. So, REMEMBER TO CANCEL WHEN YOU'RE DONE NEEDING THE EXTRA VOICE PACKS, OR ELSE!!

If AVID is listening,
1. Make the Voice Packs findable in your store menus and search results.
2. Make the cart system accept more than 1 voice pack.
3. Put in print on the page that all your VP subscriptions are recurring and auto-billed and send out emails to subscribers before they are billed again!

Default Re: Warning/Advice When Buying Voice Packs

Also note, voice packs will be obsolete soon.

Snippet:
Later in the thread on the Avid Pro Tools Users group, Francois responded to a question about the number 2048 was tracks or voices. This is what Francois said in response…

“The current plan is for the max voice AND track count to be extended to 2048 for PT Ultimate, regardless of hardware. And this will be for all Ultimate users Perpetual license holders who are on support plan, new perpetual licenses purchasers and of course subscribers.”

Francois has since given us an answer to the question “With this new 2048 voice count, will this be available to ALL Ultimate users or still require purchased voice packs to unlock?” Francois has told us…

“2048 will be for ALL Ultimate users, no voice pack required. We realize that voice pack adopters will no longer need those and will take care of them individually.

Voice count is no longer a “per card” thing. 2048 will be the new normal for everyone, regardless of hardware configuration.”
