Default OMF files and gain automation from PTLE and Avid Xpress Pro

1.
There is a way to exchange the gain and pan automation from PTLE to Avid Xpress Pro?

I imported an OMF file from AVID to PTLE and I notice that in every tracks I have the gain and pan automation made in AVID.
So I thought that exporting an OMF file from PTLE into AVID the automation will be kept. Instead It doesn't work!

2.
From Digitranslator I can select AAF or OMF, but...
What's the difference between them?
I'm not able to find any information in this formats.

I have PTLE 6.9 DV toolkit and Digitranslator 2. on MAC OS 10.3.9

thank you.
Beppe

Hi
"I notice that in every tracks I have the gain and pan automation made in AVID"

Only those made using rubberbanding ???

"So I thought that exporting an OMF file from PTLE into AVID the automation will be kept. Instead It doesn't work!"

Im not surprised although Ive never tried it that way round. Really it is intended to go from Video edit station to audio dub in this instance, although graphics files are also bounced around using OMF too. I dont think AVID supports "automation" in the same meaning as an audio system. Ive never seen an AVIDS (or FCP) mixer window faders automate to the timeline and I edit on both platforms. That said Ive never really wanted either to be used to finish audio. That is the reason why Avid bought digidesign and FCP s parents developed logic.

"AAF or OMF, but...

AAF is Advanced audio format i recall and OMF Open media framework
AAF is hoped to become the new OMF but so far take up is limited. It can contain more data about the source cues etc but essentially works the same way.

Hope that helps
Peter

from the Digitranslator guide:

Pro Tools does export volume automation to
AAF and OMF, but only if the Quantize Edits to
Frames Boundaries option (Avid Compatibility
Mode) is disabled.

you may want to consider a "rendered" OMF by Bouncing to Disk.

regards,
