Check out the Soundcraft Digital 328. Very versatile great sounding mixer for around $3500. Lots of ins & outs and routing capabilities.

The Spirit blows. While it's features are all right, when put into practice it is a very cumbersome mixer. And the Lexicon reverb is BS. It doesn't sound good at all.

They're blowing them out at $2999 at GC if you're interested.

I'm using a Yamaha O2R fitted with 2 AES/EBU
cards to interface a PT24 mix plus set-up with 2 888's.
Gives me I/O's lets me do all the bits and pieces that I don't need PT for and sounds great + there are lots of options out there for it.

We have DA7s in two rooms, hooked up aes to PTs. We use them for front end only, not for mixing, but we like them a lot, I think the mic pres are actuallt pretty nice sounding. Too bad the faders don't seem to be able to be made to control ProTools screen faders.

Just like you John A, I will probably use it mostly for front end. I guess the opitional meter bridge, one ad/da card and one AES/EBU card will be necessary. Yes that's too bad that you can't control PT with the faders, I was actually expecting that.

I too have a DA7 and it sounds great! Not only does the front end sound very sweet, but transferring in and out of other digital media is now a breeze. For the money, I don't think there are any contenders. And money aside, sonically it stacks up very favourably with much more expensive consoles.

Just saw a demo of PT5, and now I have begun thinking of adding 2 1622 interfaces instead. I already have 8 mic preamps, one focusrite green rance, one 4 channel TLA and one 2 track TLA Tube Mic pre/Compressor. then I'll only need a master fader between PT and my powered Genelecs. what's wrong with this setup?

I have a $50,000 Soundtracs "Virtua" and I used to have an O2R. The day I heard the DA7 I sold my O2R and never looked back. The O2R has a few more options but can't compare acoustically. The DA7 even sounds better than my "Virtua". Also, with the newest software version it becomes a very good control surface for Pro Tools.

The DA7 has a very British sounding EQ. I haven't heard anything under $80,000 that sounds better.

How much of PT does the new DA7 software control? Are we talking about a possible replacement for a HUI?
