Default Digidesign 96 i/o w/ Black Lion Modification

What do you guys think about this mod compared to the stock Avid 16x16 i/o?

Not excactly a direct answer to your question but there is a thread on modification of the Omni here.

http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t...n+Modification

I used the MicroClock MKII when I had the Mbox Pro. Also tried it on my Omni. It makes a difference. Wider audio and a bit more detail.
Especially on the Mbox Pro.

Of course the clock is just a part of the modification, so Im guessing there might be more to gain than just the clock mod.

I do agree that BL mods make a difference.

But what I don't get is *why* spend money on something that needs to be modded for a high fee -- why not spend enough for something that is good enough to begin with..?

Just my opinion but I think the Omni is more than good enough to begin with.
I have no intention of modding it because of conversion quality.

I wouldn't mind having a second headphone out though.

The other thing to consider is that the 96io will no longer be supported after PT10. It may work, but there's no guarantee. So now is probably not the time to put money into modding it.

And the HD 16x16 is a huge jump from the 192, which itself was much better than the 96. So I would think the new 16x16 stock would still be better than a modded 96, plus it will be supported for quite a while. And you can always mod the 16x16 later on if you want.

I have long ago lost hope in some company knowing what I want/need, so this is what I have:

- one stereo output from the interface
- one SPL 2control that gives me 2 stereo + 1 mono outputs, extra input, and two headphone outputs with crossfeed (simulating real speaker soundscape)
- one dorrough 40-A2 meter that actually gets its feed from the SPL output

This way I can live with a simple stereo output no matter what the gear

I'm sorry, but this web page provided me zero information which would convince me of its quality. And maybe it's just me, but if I wanted to have BETTER QUALITY then I would not want to see ads of LOWER PRICES.

192 quality is fine. It is far from perfect, but if I want to get a better box I'm also willing to spend more money compared to the 192, which means I would most likely take a look at Apogee's or something else.

So far, no one has convinced me that "upgrading" a Digidesign/Avid box is worth it. Buying something else, sure, but upgrading whatever is already "fine"... I don't think so.

Sorry. Maybe it's just me...

Where on the BLA page does it say what's improved, better quality, or anything that justifies a $4000+ and 3-6 month wait time?

So do higher prices make it better? in your world,
or does it possibly mean that there is a extremely high profit margin that makes it cost 300-500% higher than a competing device

The webpage explains very clearly why it is Soooooo much cheaper, it has nothing to do with quality, but does explain the highly inflated cost of other guys

I will be happy to charge an extra $2k if it translates to quality

Just said what I saw on the page. Didn't see much proof of quality but noticed point being made on cheaper costs.
