Hi everyone. Just joined here. I hate to make my first post about a problem I'm having, but I'm unable to use Pro Tools on my iMac. I can load a song and play it, but after a few seconds I get the spinning ball and I have to force quit. Sometimes I can't even get that far before it freezes.
I have gotten the "you need to restart your computer, hold down the power button" error a couple of times as well. Here is the apple report from the next start up: Interval Since Last Panic Report: 31147 sec Panics Since Last Report: 1 Anonymous UUID: F420F636-7BD8-4B85-9B2F-3B9B4B62DE51 Mon Oct 25 19:05:07 2010 panic(cpu 1 caller 0x2a8ab2): Kernel trap at 0x00000000, type 14=page fault, registers: CR0: 0x8001003b, CR2: 0x00000000, CR3: 0x00100000, CR4: 0x00000660 EAX: 0x08a62500, EBX: 0x08a62000, ECX: 0x31000000, EDX: 0x08ca0200 CR2: 0x00000000, EBP: 0x5d18bad8, ESI: 0x07deae80, EDI: 0x0085f838 EFL: 0x00010246, EIP: 0x00000000, CS: 0x00000008, DS: 0x01f20010 Error code: 0x00000010 Backtrace (CPU 1), Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x5d18b8d8 : 0x21b455 (0x5cf328 0x5d18b90c 0x2238b1 0x0) 0x5d18b928 : 0x2a8ab2 (0x591664 0x0 0xe 0x59182e) 0x5d18ba08 : 0x29e9a8 (0x5d18ba20 0x246 0x5d18bad8 0x0) 0x5d18ba18 : 0x0 (0xe 0x48 0x5d180010 0x230010) 0x5d18bad8 : 0x5c36b821 (0x8a62000 0x0 0x5d18bb68 0xcf) 0x5d18baf8 : 0x4fbdbe (0x8a9ff00 0x85f838 0x1 0x0) 0x5d18bb18 : 0x50bf12 (0x8a9ff00 0x85f838 0x5d18bb48 0x4fc141) 0x5d18bb48 : 0x50c086 (0x7deae80 0x0 0x1 0x0) 0x5d18bb68 : 0x4fbdbe (0x7deae80 0x0 0x1 0x1) 0x5d18bb88 : 0x4fbdd9 (0x7deae80 0x0 0x5d18bbb8 0x4fbdbe) 0x5d18bba8 : 0x52e1c4 (0x7deae80 0xffff 0x7dea244 0x4fbdd9) 0x5d18bbc8 : 0x52e1f7 (0x7dea240 0x246 0x5d18bc08 0x8d05c00) 0x5d18bbe8 : 0x4fbdbe (0x7dea240 0x0 0x1 0x1e) 0x5d18bc08 : 0x4fbdd9 (0x7dea240 0x0 0x5d18bc58 0x0) 0x5d18bc28 : 0x28339c (0x7dea240 0x8d05c00 0x1e 0x5d18bc58) 0x5d18bc78 : 0x21d80e (0x7086098 0x79ea5a0 0x836afd4 0x1) 0x5d18bcb8 : 0x210983 (0x7086000 0x12 0x5d18bd18 0x20f3a5) 0x5d18bd18 : 0x21dcdd (0x7086000 0x10000 0x0 0x21070b) 0x5d18bd48 : 0x23f338 (0x5d18bd6c 0x24 0x8cf2194 0x0) 0x5d18bd98 : 0x214eb8 (0x8d05c00 0x1 0x1 0x221af1) 0x5d18bde8 : 0x2154ca (0x6c0e7b8 0x1e103 0x46ce2e10 0x7fdc5dc) 0x5d18be28 : 0x22c3b4 (0x6c0e7b8 0x852a550 0x5d18be78 0x47699f) 0x5d18be78 : 0x4773d4 (0x7fdc5dc 0x9 0x5d18bea8 0x88c07a8) 0x5d18bec8 : 0x482a69 (0x8024d20 0x9 0x0 0x8024e30) 0x5d18bf38 : 0x485912 (0x9 0x88c07a8 0x5d18bfa8 0x100001f) 0x5d18bf68 : 0x219050 (0x88c07a8 0xffffff7f 0x5fbff3d0 0x7fff) 0x5d18bfa8 : 0x2a79f7 (0xffffffff 0x1 0x5d18bfc8 0x227764) 0x5d18bfc8 : 0x29e8a6 (0x0 0x2 0x10 0x834bd84) Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies): com.digidesign.mbox2.driver(8.0.3f1)@0x5c366000->0x5c385fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOAudioFamily(1.7.6fc2)@0x5bfd2000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily(4.0.2)@0x5b672000 dependency: com.apple.driver.AppleUSBMergeNub(4.0.0)@0x5bb6800 0 BSD process name corresponding to current thread: coreaudiod Mac OS version: 10F569 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 10.4.0: Fri Apr 23 18:28:53 PDT 2010; I had similar problems on my last computer, a Mac mini, so I upgraded to this iMac thinking a faster, newer computer would help. But it seems worse now. ![]() I updated to PT 8.0.4, but that was almost worse, so I uninstalled and went with 8.0.3 for now. I'm tempted to completely start over but I thought I should ask here first. Thank you for reading and for any input! Much appreciated. |

You probably should update to 8.0.4. How is the external drive connected? USB drives are not supported and firewire drives need to use an Oxford 9xx chipset(911, 912, 924, 934, etc). You should be able to do plenty with a dual core 3GHz

Its a Firewire 400 drive, forgot to mention that. 8.0.4 froze too but I guess I'll try it again and save up for a Glyph drive if thats the problem.
