Default BOOM stops between auditioning patches

I have a dumb question. I installed PT8 and was playing around with BOOM, which was pretty cool, but when I click the +/- buttons to select the next patch BOOM stops. I want to be able to audition different beats against a melody track but I have to re-start BOOM each time. I know I must have something turned off, in the demo video BOOM does not stop between patches when auditioning sounds, but I can't seem to figure it out.
Thanks
