Default 001 User thinking of upgrading to M-Powered

Hello, I am a longtime Digi 001 user. Right now I have a rock-solid system built around a custom AMD 64/Asus Mobo setup. I am now debating on whether or not it is time to upgrade my system and the PT software from version 6 to version 7. I'm thinking about ditching the 001 for a Delta 1010 and M-Powered 7.1 It looks as though my Mobo chipset is still supported (Asus K7V-X mobo). My main reason for this change is that my needs have changed in my studio. I used to have run a project studio and recorded bands on the 001 with a Alesis AI-3 slaved to ADAT for 16 inputs. I have gotten out of this business and am mostly producing my own material or mixing my rock bands recordings (we use a Yamaha digital recorder to track drums and basic tracks at the drummmers practice space, then upload the tracks into PT for overdubs and mixing). I am mostly using plug-ins, Reason, and Live for my own compositions and like the added Midi features that PT 7 includes. I don't need a ton of I/O on the card but I still need to be able to output a 5.1 mix for video editing in another app(I use Vegas 6) from the card hence why I am looking at at least the 1010 card. Otherwise I am only tracking 1-2 inputs at a time in most cases and I have outboard pre-amps and a headphone amp for monitoring. I would still like to be able to use my BCF2000 control surface too. I am on more of a budget now too so I will basically be using the $$ I make selling the 001 and AI-3 to finance this switch. I know that the re-sale value on the 001s are getting smaller and smaller by the day so I think that I should jump on this soon if I am going to do it. Does this seem like a good idea or should I just keep rolling on with this solid stable system and looking at upgrading other components like a newer version of Live (I'm currently on 4.2) to help progess my more Midi based setup? Also anyone using the 1010LT really notice a difference in the unbalanced connections. I'm also wondering what any of you think about the 001s audio performance compared to the Delta 1010s (rack or LT version). Thanks.

Any opinions? Should I post this in the LE forum?

You asked, so here's my opinion:

1. M-Audio hardware sounds better (to my ear) than the 001.

2. PT7 is much nicer to work with than version 6, although most of my experience is with PT7 TDM (I have an M-Powered setup at home). Version 7 was a vast improvement for TDM, anyway.

3. I think that for a personal setup M-Powered is fine, and I've found that it has less latency than my old MBox. Better drivers, I guess.

4. Even though you have to buy PT M-Powered seperately, it's still a good value.

FWIW, my two cents.

Thank you for your input MDog. I'm starting to put together my budget for this system right now. Thanks.
