Default Dual 450MHz G4s?

I work for a radio station & we currently have a 400MHz G4 with the Digi 001 sytem, ATTO SCSI card and 75 gigs of HD space. Seeing how well it works, I want to get a Mac for a home project studio but am debating between the dual 450 MHz processors or the single 400 MHz ($1000.00 price diff). Has anyone seen a significant difference in performance between the two types of G4's? Or is there a place that sells Macs dirt cheap?

Another thing I heard is that Pro Tools LE does not quite use the second processor. Is this true, and if so, is Digidesign gonna upgrade the LE version?

Hi, I was in your exact same situation.
Work in Radio, Was using a single Processor G4-450 with a Digi001. And wanted to buy a setup for home.

I ended up buying the Dual Processor G4-450 for home and although it works beautifully, I don't think there's any real performance difference.

When comparing the machine at work to home, both had 256MB RAM, both had exactly the same model scsi card, and both ran the Digi001.

The only differences were the standard hard drives, and the fact that my personal machine had a second CPU. (which is sitting in idle)

I've been told that when OSX is released, there will be a huge difference.

But that's just what I've been told.
I hope that's true, but will not count my chickens before they've hatched.

Sorry, I can't really give you a suggestion.
I'd like to say, "get the Dual CPU" but in all honesty, I don't know if it'll be of any benefit or not, (or when.)
I chose to buy the Dual CPU model because I could get it at about the same price as the single cpu model.

Seeya, Matt.

Gee... I'd like to work in radio too.

I wonder if anyone in Chicago needs a fast learning ProTools novice with basic editing experience and a great voice for radio...
hmmm.
