Question Path for upgrading Mbox 2 Pro with 7.4.2 LE to current

So now I have figured out how to deal with iLok nightmares (minus plug-ins) I have a question for Avid support.

I was running Pro Tools 7.4.2 LE on Windows. I now have a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6+. I cannot install Pro Tools 7.4.2 LE on that machine successfully. I want to bring my system up to Pro Tools 9 or perhaps 10.

I was able to get a "demo" of Pro Tools 10 (which I cannot install until I get my new iLok--see my other discussion), but it indicates that I will need a prior version of Pro Tools installed to upgrade. So... if I cannot get 7.4.2 LE installed on my Mac, what do I do in order to upgrade/cross-grade?

Please advise.

No big mystery- You buy the software -you qualify for the crossgrade price:

You install it. Not sure what is going on with the Demo Install-

Question Re: Path for upgrading Mbox 2 Pro with 7.4.2 LE to current

Thanks. So you are saying that pre-existing ownership is not tied to a former installation? That is good. If not, though, what is it tied to? Simply seeing that you have a Pro Tools piece of hardware? Typing in a key? Before I spend $499 I would like to understand what part of the installation process says "prove to me you own an older version" and how I go about doing that...

Exclamation Re: Path for upgrading Mbox 2 Pro with 7.4.2 LE to current

BTW, to those interested, when you get a Pro Tools 10 demo, it asks for your named iLok account and then distributes the license key to use the demo via iLok. That is why I brought it up and assumed iLok was a part of any upgrade process.

For the crossgrade you need to supply your iLok, the authorization code you get when you buy the software and the serial number of the MBox.

Order it here and we will get you through the process and up and running:

Red face Re: Path for upgrading Mbox 2 Pro with 7.4.2 LE to current

Thanks. Once I get a chance to do this, with your guarantee of some support, you may have just earned another customer :)

If you read my other post at http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=314829 you will see I was burned on the iLok + plug-ins I received during a resale purchase of my Mbox 2 Pro + Pro Tools LE 7.4.2. That is why I am apprehensive about what I have vs. what I need.

It sounds like you are telling me that so long as I have the Mbox 2 Pro hardware and an iLok (albeit a new one) in my name, I can upgrade?

Well the only thing that can hang you up is if the previous owner used the MBox 2 serial number to register a crossgrade.

I've had some end users get burned buying used stuff this way- with certain things buying used is the way to go, but when it comes to hardware/software packages there are a few things you have to look out for.

If you email me privately with the MBox2 serial number I can have AVID check to see if it's been registered already...
