Speakers with 5 inch drivers don't go very low (regardless of what the specs say), and you don't have to be boosting stuff at all to have too much low end energy in your mix.
Either try some good headphones as a reference, put a good detailed, fast reacting multiband meter on the output bus to see what's happening, or try cutting everything below 60 or 70 or 80Hz (on the master bus), just as an experiment.

Cool thanks for the suggestions.

Can you recommend some good mixing headphones? That aren't super expensive?

There are loads of options - part of it is getting used to your monitoring chain (including headphones).
And it depends what you count as expensive. Here are my recommendations but you'll find plenty of others all over this board and others.

1. Sennheiser HD600 or HD650 are both popular. Higher cost than the ones below, open back, but nice and flat. The 650's go down to 5 Hz.
2. Sony MDR 7506 or 7509. Widely used for tracking - i.e. for artists while recording. Closed back, replaceable parts, a bit shrill but used by quite a few people for checking mixes - including Andrew Scheps.
3. AKG 550 - I have the Mk II but there are multiple iterations. Closed back, very comfortable, very boring sounding. My favourite headphones. Work for tracking and mixing.
