Default The EA tips and tricks thread!

I think we should all share some EA work flow ideas. I'll post a few and if any of you have any post em too!

1. Quantizing a distorted guitar.
-record a DI signal along side the dirty sound. Delete all analysis markers from the dirty track then create a group of the DI and the Dirty. Highlight the whole track and quantize. Listen and fix any misplaced markers. Takes about 8 mins per 3:30 song. AMAZINGLY FAST.

2. Going back a forth between analysis and warp view sucks. Here's a way around it.
- Duplicate the tracks you are working on. Make sure they are all part of the same group when prompted. Turn off your group, then put the duplicate tracks in analysis and the original tracks in warp. Re enable the group. You can now delete any analysis marker and have both views available. Very cool idea my assistant had yesterday.

3. Place all of your drum samples AFTER quantizing your drum kit. So many hits so close seem to screw up the EA engine.

Thats it for me for now, what about YOU!

Does anyone else have any tips or tricks?

Here is another one to keep the ball rolling.

You need at least a quad to do this.

Waiting for the EA render sux. Why not work on the mix while waiting for the render?

Simply create new track(s) and put them in mute. Copy the EA audio regions to them. Now while you are still mixing away, the EA is rendering. When the render is done, simply make the original tracks inactive.

Why would you do this? Because often times the rendered version is much more accurate than the real time version. Less artifacts ect...

Bring some more on!

nice tip Kris!!!

here's one that helps me...say you got your track 'almost' like you want it to feel. next quantize the track to either 1/32 or 1/64 note. this way you keep the feel you've created with minute but tightenin' corrections. and for single things that still 'might' need to be changed, you'll have a nice grid to work with. this method is especially helpful when workin' with grooves (funk, hip-hop, neo-soul, world, etc) that requires a feel to be just ahead or just behind the beat.

Yes. Quantize with strength set to 1%. This will hardly move anything at all, but you'll have your warp markers.

That is also a very cool tip!

Here is one more, maybe not new but still valid.

You have the drums quantized the way you want them, but they are not perfectly aligned to the grid. If you quantize the rest of the instruments they will be off.

Using Beat Detective, create a beat map (this is pretty fast if the drums are recorded with good mic isolation)

You can now move on and quantize all the rest of the program material to the new grid, perfectly in time with the perfectly out of time drums

Like I said, not new but still very cool.

Anyone have a good trick for Piano or Acoustic guitar?

Default Re: The EA tips and tricks thread!

There seems to be so much bitching around here lately that I thought I would share this tip to try and liven things up. I for one love PT, even though I really want off line bounce...

Quantizing drums in EA without artifacts is almost impossible. It requires a lot of massaging. Here is a tip to make it easier.

In my experiments I have found that having your event sensitivity set to %100 will give you less artifacts and better phase accuracy, but makes it way harder to deal with when you have to tab through markers to fix any errors or make sure there are no small overstretches.

The problem is when you start tabbing to fix the odd timing error or warp mark error, there is almost always an unused analysis marker so close to the warp marker that fixing the timing is near impossible.

1. Quantize your drums to the shortest note value in the tune
2. Select all regions in the drum group and hit ALT + 5 to bring up EA properties
3. Set your event sensitivity to 0
4. Tab through and fix almost all edits without those stupid analysis markers getting in the way

I tried this a few times yesterday and was amazed at how well it worked. Try it for yourself and let me know how it goes!

Don't know about you guys, but EA often causes a warbling effect for me. My solution now is to duplicate the playlist first. The once I finish my EA edits, I commit and listen. Anytime I hear a warble effect, I open the playlist view and use Tab to Transient to find the leading edge of the original(clean) audio. I copy and then go back to the warbling track, use T2T to locate the leading edge of the same(but warbling audio) and paste. This puts the clean original region in the exact spot of the region that may have been mover slightly during my EA editing.

albee, havin' you tried addin' markers within the existin' warp makers when you get the warblin' effect? IOW, create anchors that are closer to the marker that you actually are gonna adjust. see if that helps bro
