Default Normal input level behaviour ?

PT HD last Tiger version and cs. I have like 12 mono tracks I'm "premixing" to a stereo one. I put the stereo track in input and check the overall level until it's ok. Now I put an eq (or other processing) on the stereo track (always in input mode) and the setting of the eq modifies the track level I'm reading. So my question is, is this level I'm seeing the INPUT or the OUTPUT ? If it was the input it should not be modified by any plugin I'm inserting on the track, right ? So this must be the OUTPUT level, but then how can I check the track input level ? Do I have to remove all plugins, check the level, record the track and then apply plugins ? Thanks... I'm in Pre-fader metering mode.

Hi,

No need to remove the plugin, just bypass!

Which plugins? some can change the input level, but only if you actually adjust the input on the plug. if you haven't adjusted the input level on the plug and it is causing the level to drop when in pre fader monitoring, then that's strange.

That's not really true. If you have a compressor in the chain you will notice that the gain will be reduced as soon as the level will reach the threshold setting of the comp. An eq with a deep cutting, especially in the bass, midbass freq will reduce the entire level programme, an insert delay, as soon as you move the dry/wet cursor toward the wet position, the level will be reduced.
But I agree with you that bypassing all plugins in this channel will give you the input level.
Digi could give us a preference setting for having only the input signal on the meter when the track is in rec mode or in monitor mode regardless of any plugin inserted in the chain. In other words a preference setting for switching the meters pre/insert when recording or monitoring.

Well, good to know. Yes, at least having a preference would be great. Thanks
