Default 2 Versions of Song in one Session & CPU…

Hello everyone.

As I experiment with mixing I’d like to try cutting out sections of a song and evaluate the results…

Is it efficient - or does it even matter - if I just duplicate all the original tracks within a session and paste them further down the timeline where I can mess with the duplicate tracks - leaving the original song format unaltered (still having the plugins working on the tracks as originally assigned) - or is there a better way to create an exact duplicate to do this?

Not sure the best way to do this and maximize the performance of my system…

Thanks

Sparky

Not necessary. Just do a “save as….” and name it something different.

Several options for this.
You can also duplicate the playlists

I would just save to a new session name, in case you are just experimenting.

This was my original thought - which then got me concerned about how it would affect my system... with basically 2 songs in one session - at least this is what I think you mean...

Thanks,

Sparky

Yeah - experimenting for sure... trying to appreciate the concept of "less is more" and figuring out if I "really need" the extra measures between the end of a chorus and beginning of a bridge... etc., etc..

Thanks,

Sparky

To add to what has already been suggested:

Once you've established the original session, save it with a new name such as "Version 1" before you start re-arranging. Then create a new "save as" file named "Version 2" and start experimenting.

Good idea... I was likely going to head down a hole with multiple versions and eventually just a messy bunch of sessions...

Thanks,

Sparky

To the original question; copying all clips across all tracks and pasting them down in the timeline is not a bad idea at all, and will most certainly not affect the cpu usage at all. I think I'd prefer to do it that way, to avoid multiple varying levels, settings etc. The mix will stay the same for all tracks, and you'll have one or more versions down the timeline with different progressions.
