Default No AAX version? No thanks.

I skip many interesting plugins because they are VST only.

I own Live but rarely use it to justify buying any VSTs.

Oh well.

Just a thought.

There are AAX wrappers for VST like Nugen's SigMod and Blue Cat.

What plugins are you seeing that don't have an aax version?

In my opinion you made a big mistake in assuming that VST plug-ins are equally bad. I can well understand that you have concerns, because there are really a lot of bad VSTs out there but not everything is bad, I would say that many are very stable. I can assure you that your concerns are completely unfounded.

I work with Pro Tools and Ableton Live.

The AAX format alone doesn't make a plug-in better, it makes it a better option to work within the Pro Tools environment, cause AAX is the propriotary plug-in format for PT and thus is the first choice for PT.

I hope this helps.

I think you’ve totally misunderstood his issue.

He wants the plugins to be in AAX format so that he can use them in PT. He’s not implying that the VST format is bad.

I ran Universal Audio VST plugins as AAX-64 via Blue Cat Patchwork for a very long time, waiting for UA to make the AAX transformation. No issues at all, but one humorous side note, when I called UA to see if they had any reasons NOT to do it that way. “We don’t recommend ‘wrapping’ our plugins like this.” Which is funny, because when Pro Tools used RTAS plugins, UA plugins included a VST-to-RTAS wrapper.

I also have skipped non AAX plugins due to Pro Tools being my main DAW. There's plenty of people making AAX stuff for it not to be a concern.

On the flip side, if a plugin is AAX only it has to be good to justify a purchase. In actuality, the AAX only plugins are generally more expensive so that also makes them harder to justify.

Ultimately, I'm pretty entrenched in Pro Tools but that might not always be the case. Plugins should really come in all he popular flavours, AAX, VST, AU to be serious players.

Stephen

After years of add ons in an HD system, I am loving the simplicity of a Pro Tools native setup that just works every day. The last thing I want is wrappers, UAD or PCIe cards anymore.

It is aax only and Stephen said, there are many options for most plugins. It is only the odd thing like Melodyne that is unique and they do multi formats.

I echo the question, I am interested in what plugins you are seeing, that are interesting to you but not in AAX format? Are they EQ, compressor types or Virtual Instrument synths?
