firewire issues with G5, OSX 10.3.2 and protools
Have you guys seen any issue with firewire on the G5's ?
When running pro-tools sessions we are consistently having issues with file and directory corruption on our G5 using the Glyph firewire rack that is supposed to work fine with our setup. We have a spare external drive that just got corrupted this week, we are at the point were we have to run disk warrior about once a week to fix stuff. If we run on the internal drives we have no issues whatsoever. Is anyone else experiencing these types of issues? Someone recommended getting an PCI firewire card and running the drives of that due to issues with the G5 firewire ports but he didn't seems to have any emperical evidence as to why this would be better. I'd really appreciate some feedback, we have lost thousands in lost studio time the last month or so. |

Are you using a canopus? Also why not 10.3.4?

Re: firewire issues with G5, OSX 10.3.2 and protoo
We recently upgraded to 10.3.2 and wait a while before upgrading to the latest version.
We have had these types of issues since earlier version of OSX. I'm not familiar with canopus, other than the video capture company, what were you talking about ? Thanks for the reply Grant |

Re: firewire issues with G5, OSX 10.3.2 and protools
I have been using firewire for audio exclusively for the past three years, with very little problem. Originally, with my mix3 system on a G4, and now with the G5 that sounds similar to your setup I use the owc mercury elite stand alone drives with the brick power supply. I use these kind of like I used to use two inch tape..one for each project, and then it goes on the shelf, also backed up to dvd when complete. New project, new drive. For projects in progress, I keep a running safety on a large fw drive via Silverkeeper (free backup software from LaCie) ..might be worth a hundred and thirty nine dollars to get one and see if it works better than your glyph. I have had a few glyph peripherals over the years, and haven't found them to be exactly butlletproof, although a lot of folks have been really happy with their glyph gear.
