Default 1394 Light Blinks In Win7/64, But Not XP?

On another P5K build. The 003 works FINE when using XP and 8.0.1. I can successfully install 8.0.4 on Win 7/64, but the program never finishes loading and the 003 displays a blinking green light (1394). The computer recognizes the 003 in DEVICES. What may be the problem. I'll post a Sandra report if requested (bare in mind that it does work w/no problem in XP. If I image XP on my drive using ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE, it works great, when I image Win 7/64, not so much).

Try using the Legacy firewire driver(in Win7 x64).

Hey Albee. This has helped tremendously. PT loads and I have all of my plugs installed, BUT it takes four years to load! (Forever to load the program itself, and then forever to load the session). Clearly this isn't normal. Is IE8 still a problem on Win 7/64?

4 years.....I told you a million times not to exaggerate. I can't really comment re. IE8 as I removed it and run Firefox on my system(but I thought it was an XP issue). What plugins are you running(other than stock stuff). My Waves Mercury Bundle does take several minutes to load. Also, load times are slow the first time(and the first time after trashing prefs as the software is scanning all the plugins again). First thing to figure out is whether Pro Tools runs okay

Seriously, I've had this and slow 'saving backups' where the entire system freezes until its done saving the backup. I had the slow program load with just the stock plugs. I did then add NI Plugs (Kontakt, Battery, etc) with the same results (slow program load, slow session load, slow saving backups, freezing, etc).

Interestingly enough, any program which could utilize the 003 in standalone mode (Kontakt, etc). did not have the same issue (they load right away).

I'm not sure what was going on, but I just reverted back to 8.0.1 on XP because I didn't have time to deal with the headache.

when you built this PC, did you install everything that was on the motherboard disk? Just wondering if you have some bloatware on your system that is dragging the performance down. You might also try setting TAM timings manually to see what happens. I would also post a Sandra report as someone may spot a hardware issue.

Nope, no bloatware. Did the manual RAM settings a million times over. Remember, I RUN PT PERFECTLY UNDER XP, all I did was install Win 7/64. It must be something w/Digi's drivers (on my particular system). I've read enough threads here on this subject. There's absolutely no reason why my system should run PT perfectly (as tweaked as it is) under XP and then not under Win 7 (w/all of the necessary Win 7 optimizations).

I have no extraneous plugs (just the stock ones). I get the bad performance whether I have PT installed by itself, or install my NI stuff.

I will post a Sandra report as soon as I can. Thanks so much for your help so far.
