Unbalanced Avalon M5?
I called the store on friday to order an Avalon M5 mic pre. The guy there told me that unlike the AD2022, the M5 is unbalanced.
Should I go for the balanced option(JT-1)? Is there any particular reason that they sell it unbalanced?

Buy it as is and forget about the balanced option. The balancing transformer is only needed if you are going to have a really long cable run from the M5 output. I use the M5 as it comes and it is fantastic.
