Default Generate Time Code without SYNC I/O

Anyone know how to generate timecode without Sync I/O?
I'm using a MOTU Micro Express, HD1-192 I/O, ProTools 7.1.

The MOTU is spitting out SMPTE on it's own, but I can't get ProTools to generate timecode, so it's not relative to the movie.

This is a new system, and I'm hoping that I'm overlooking something obvious.

Thanks.

It’s not obvious, but it does make sense once you know the reason behind it (i.e. not “driving” an entire soundstage when in need of doing some off-line work or troubleshooting).

You must put PT “on-line” to output SMPTE. (PT7 Reference Guide, pg. 657.)

The only obvious thing you missed is to search the pdf version of the manual. Finding the exact page with “generate smpte” as the search string took all but 30 secs — it’s an awesome feature.

IHTH.

You need to do one of the following:

1. Purchase a SYNC I/O or other compatable IO device that generates Timecode and runs with your version of Protools and MAC/PC.

2. Generate Timecode from your MOTU device and record it into protools on an unused track. Then play Timecode out to whatever you are trying to sync with protools. ( Watch your record and playback levels )

cheers

What we're trying to do is use a MOTU Micro Express instead of a Sync I/O to generate timecode.
We've tried everything in the manual of each that we know of.

Then get a Maudio "UNO" http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Uno-main.html
or MOTU "Fastlane" http://www.motu.com/products/midi/fastlane_usb/

Attach it from the Microexpress to the USB, then follow the manual, on how to drive Protools
with MTC.

Or use Protools to generate MTC, and the Microexpress will convert MTC to TC.
