need advice on auto tune
I'm thinking of getting auto tune evo and I'm wondering whether the vocal studio version is worth the extras dough, and also whether there's a downside to getting the native version instead of TDM? I'm using waves tune LE now, and I find it a bit cumbersome, and the bounced vocal tracks lose fidelity. Thoughts?

Native EVO is the way to go. Tracks the best and sounds the best. Including Melodyne, which has a nice workflow, but not the best sound.

Re: need advice on auto tune
Wow I beg to differ. Melodyne sounds WAAAAAAAAY better than autotune in either version, and the workflow is exactly the same between Manual Autotune mode and Melodyne.
The benefit of Autotune in TDM is simply that you can put it on during tracking. As far as vocal studio, I have the entire Autotune bundle and I rarely use anything besides EVO and Autotune FX (Hip Hoppers must have it to everyone's dismay.) I like the tube sim, and the punch plug in, however before using punch you need to manually strip silence things you don't want to be REALLY loud in the mix such as a vocalist panting between sung phrases. Either way you can download full version trials for native and TDM, and try for yourself. I have heard Native sounds better but haven't really felt it myself. Autotune sounds like autotune no matter which one you use. It imparts a unique sonic texture that I can hear everytime it is used... poorly. Very often I will put autotune on a singer set to the slowest correction speed, click the ignore vibrato button, and have it on chromatic, just to give the vocals a nuge closer to on pitch. You can't really hear it then. Melodyne doesn't impart the same "I've been changed" sound. It has a much more natural feel and gets better with every release. I actually used the new full studio version to open up a sample I sped up ion the turntable from 33 to 45, recorded into pro tools, bounce to melo studio, and was able to fix a bass guitar note that was sounding a half step off... without hurting the rest of the sample. Kanye eat your heart out. Autotune can't do that. |

Re: need advice on auto tune
I'm not talking "artifacts" but pure "sonics". Melodyne changes the highend, even when not doing any tuning. It gets grainy. Editor is better but it's still there.
I agree, AT if used improperly has a sound but if you really listen to the highend detail, AT retains it better. |

Re: need advice on auto tune
I will test your opinion "hearings" on some mixes, I unlike many others on this forum (not talking about you) am open to other opinions!!! I had yet to pay attention to sonic differences in output EQ, only on the "sound" of autotune.
