Re: Aux Sends causing high CPU usage PT 2021.6/higher with Apple Silicon [PT-286348]
Tested Here 2018 MBP 2.9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9
32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB Normal conditions this Version of Protools has been Very Unstable with My Normal use 100 Tracks plus Processing on a Template with 60 Auxes....CPU Spikes 100% Frequently and Freezes with Random GUI Graphics Issues and Lots of Fan Usage....But This test ... All 10 busses upon 121 Tracks of included audio... and purring along like a champ with 15% cpu playing 121 tracks of audio includes Busses I furthered the insult to injury added 131 instances of Slate VMR on all Mono and stereo audio and bussing, It Jumped up 96% and then froze up So I added 5 More instances per track and PT was a pinwheel Pinned at 100% CPU usage non responsive And Gasping for life..so I made slate inactive across 60 Tracks and Cpu Usage dropped to 67% Dumped all Slate and CPU Dropped to 13% and held steady for 20 minutes on loop

120 tracks with all ten sends on when playing only increases totall cpu by 3-4 % compared to maxing out on 100% and giving the CPU error on version 2022.4. Great work !!! Persen

I noticed that the "windowserver" process on mac seems to be working a bit harder than before. As far as PT performance goes, all my most demanding sessions opened up for me with no problems. GUI nice and snappy on first glance. No CPU errors where I was getting tons before. So far so good! |

I still have my notes from when I tried it with the previous version of Pro Tools. It topped out at 9 aux sends and 87-96% CPU use. I received an AAE 9173 error whenever I tried it with the 10th aux enabled. With the latest version (2022.5) of Pro Tools, I was able to activate all ten aux sends and run the session flawlessly, with the system CPU use showing 14-15%. I was using the M1 Max Mac Studio listed in my sig. The only other change since I ran the initial test was a macOS update from 12.3.1 to 12.4. This was a significant bug, but based on my tests, it's fixed now. Thank you, Avid. PS I was obviously wrong when I recently posted in a discussion about this bug that you don't appear to be that concerned about bug fixes lately. At least in this case, you obviously were, and I was wrong. My apologies, and thanks again!
