PT 5.1 disappeared

I am using a Mac tower G4 w/ OS 9.1 and a PT LE 5.1. Until recently it's has ran great for many years. Lately however, I have been getting the message the computer is having trouble detecting the firewire hard drive( LaCie). I thought the hard drive was going out so today, while trying out a different hard drive the Pro Tools icons changed and aren't recognized by the computer. The Toast as well. I checked the cables, unplugged the computer and tried reinstalling Pro Tools and also the OS 9.1 system to no avail. It's probably time to make a change but this has performed so good I hate to. Any thoughts would be appreciated

I'd try clearing the PRAM
what PT interface are you using

for a new system we will need to know more about what your needs are
