Default Dollar Sign Symbols

I was looking at an engineers tracks the other day and before the correct labeled name of each track, he had put a dollar sign next to it. I was curious what this is for and whether it helps sort regions out better in the regions bin. Anyone heard of this?

I put symbols before certain tracks to make them appear at the top of the region bin- like an * for the Lead Vocal. That way I can separate those regions from background vocals, etc.

But, I can't say it really helps me- just something I do.

I use these suffixes at the beginning of track names:
x - scratch track
sr - soundreplacer (SoundReplacer track)
at, v, or atv - Voxes (AutoTune and/or VocAlign processing applied)
m - mix (edited/consolidated track that was laid back to 2")
I do a sort by "Descending" and "By Source File Creation Date"
Original 2" transferred tracks get no suffix.

I use to use a bullet • and asterisk *, but PC .WAV files don't support those characters in their names. I use a Mac, but I need to be compatible with PC users and mastering houses.

sometimes when editing or comping, i like to rename the track with a nice asterisk or other symbol before consolidating the track. that way it makes a new audio file that's easy to find. like...all drum tracks that have been comped will be *kick, *snare, *hat, etc...this also means the rest of the drum tracks can easily be emptied from the bin with peace of mind. anyways...that's why i do it.
