Default about to buy FireWire cardbus card

This post is an adjunct to my other one: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=253922

I have ordered two OWC Mercury Elite Al-PRO external disk drives as recommended, the kind with two FW400 ports. One disk for my Pro Tools sessions, one for Kontakt samples. I plan to keep all connections at 400 Mb/s with 6-pin cables.

I've been scared away from using a FireWire hub. And it may be risky to daisy-chain two disk drives with my 002 Rack. Better to put the Kontakt drive on a separate FireWire bus, yes?

So I'm planning to buy a cardbus FireWire card for my 17-inch PowerBook G4 which has a slot "that accepts Type I and Type II PCMCIA cards, including CardBus-format cards". System Profiler tells me that my cardbus slot is named "TXN,PCIXXXX-00". I seem to recall that it's a 32-bit slot but can't remember where (or if) I read that.

I previously tried a card with a VIA chipset, and whenever it was in the slot, the Mac told me to restart. The computer wouldn't function at all with that card in the slot.

So I'm listening to the advice which seems to say I need a Texas Instrument chipset. Would this do? http://www.partsdata.co.uk/PCMCIA_PC...ARD-12120.html

You can probably find a cheaper card in the USA, but I'm in London and have to pay shipping from the USA plus customs tax on top of that. So if I can source this in Europe I'll have lower shipping costs and no customs tax.

Thanks.

The answer is:

Yes, this Texas Instrument card works well. For full details, see my other thread.
