Default Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ)

Does PT work with this codec?

I know for certain that PT 7.4, OSX 10.4.9, QT 7.2, HD2, 4GBRAM, PPC(mac) does not support this codec.

Quicktime 7.2 doesn't even open the file, yet Quicktime 7.6 does.
Quicktime 7.6 is part of OSX 10.4.11-but will PT 7.4 support it?
Don't really want to upgrade OS if PT isn't even supporting the codec...

Will PT8 be able to use this codec?
Will this codec only work in INTEL or PPC envirnment?

Suggestions..?

It will work but I have no idea of the specific versions needed. I don't think its really up to PT, it depends on the version of Quicktime. I believe it works with PPC and Intel although someone may correct me about that.

AJA makes a hardware box that hangs off the FW bus that decodes ProRes and takes the processing hit off the CPU, maybe that will work as the video peripheral in Pro Tools.

I have not tried it, however.

I just tried a session with a 1920X1080 Apple ProRes422HQ Quicktime movie (23.976fps) along with 6 audio tracks of 24bit 48kHz.

This is a MacPro Harpertown (8X 3.2GHz) tower with 8GB RAM, running OS X 10.5.6, QT Version 7.6.0 (1290). The Quicktime movie is playing out of the DVI port to a 1920X1200 24" Apple Cinema (LCD) Display.

Software is: PT LE 8.0cs2 + DVToolkit2. (Digi hardware is MBox 1).

Everything runs great, nice and smooth. QT Files are playing off of FibreJet storage.

Hope this helps,
-Phil

According to Apple's ProRes422 Decoder download page (http://support.apple.com/downloads/A...er_1_0_for_Mac), system requirements are:
  • Mac OS X 10.4 or Mac OS X 10.5
  • QuickTime 7.5 or later
