Default AAX-DSP analog/tape/console emulation?

Hi all,

I have couple projects sent to me to mix that I want to bring into the "analog" sounding realm. I'm committed to AAX-DSP. What do you recommend? McDSP Analog Channel? Channel-G? Something I don't know about?

Is Heat currently working properly?

Default AAX-DSP analog/tape/console emulation?

Personally I like Phoenix 2 by Dave Hill ("the daddy" of Heat). Versatile and adjustable and DSP!

Used on my dialogue bus

The 3M M79 model on Avid ReelTape is underestimated especially at 96x24.

I mix on an SSL 4K and HEAT is used on almost all mix sessions I do. It's just magical!
Also I loved the new PA plugin black box HG-2

HEAT is great, very nicely integrated into the system and works well. It won't really give you the tape thing though - more of an analog console vibe.

Slate's VTM isn't bad, the UAD ATR sim is good, the Waves sim sounded too much like a tape machine I didn't like, and I haven't tried UHE Satin, but I've heard good things about it - none of those are DSP though...

I'd sort of forgotten about Avid Reel Tape; that's the only DSP one in the bunch - if Bob says it's good, I should probably check it out.

In my experience (and from what I've read) turning the drive control on HEAT counter clockwise is more "tape like" saturation and clockwise more "tubey".

And yeah, my question was specifically about AAX-DSP solutions. ;-)

My goal is to be able to set up a template using AAX-DSP plugins that emulates tape and a console. Heat with the drive at "10 o'clock" works for me or maybe Avid Reel Tape will satisfy the tape part of the equation. So what about an AAX-DSP console emulation? Anyone used McDSP Channel-G or the Brainworx bx_console plugin?
