Have you tried Focusrite Compounder already? It's a killer for vocals, be sure to try its unique bass expansion

I have an idea, how about posting in a forum about compressors, instead of a TDM Protools Mac forum. Yeah, Id prolly start there.

Looking at what you already own, I'd say you've already got what you need. Just a question of knowing the equipment and dialing in the sound you're after, no? Not that I'm against buying new gear. I really like using the Distressors, but I also like what I get with Cranesong Trakkers and Purple MC77s. Manley's VoxBox is a great tool as well, but it's not just a compressor.

Genre'? Current vocal mics? Male/female ?etc....

You've got some great stuff... are you not pleased with your results?
I really like the Distressor, for both the aggressive male "in your face" stuff, AND that Vintage emulation mode in 10:1 (Fairchild, I think?) for the "older" vibe...

I'm curious... I'm surprised that you have both a G384 AND a C2... are you keeping the C2 just for the "crush" mode? Do you find these reproducing each other?

Thanks!

I know you are looking hardware wise, and I'm a plug-in guy, but I tend to get what I think are awesome results combining Waves C4 followed by CLA-76 Blue Stripe compressor. Sometimes I'll follow that with the Sonnox Inflator. But the C4 tends to balance out the vocal really well if their vocals are too bright or dull sounding and then the CLA-76 brings out the clarity, punch and intelligibility of the vocal. I don't have a ton of different vocal microphones to find the exact match per singer, but this combination works almost all of the time for me.

Thanks for your response

Im looking for a Grundge type sound, and some how I feel the sound I have its a little to smooth

The only reason Im afraid of buying a UREI 1176 its because I really believe that 45 years old units its pushing it a little hard

May be I will go with the retro sound 176

But I will check your recomendations

Thanks

I guess my genre could be defined by Rock Pop, with both Male and female

Dont do R&B or rap,

THe smart I use it to parallel compress Drums, ( the crush mode its amazin)

But my Buss Comp its the SSL, its a hard habit to brake

Thanks for your help
