Default unplugging Mbox2 everytime i want to load pro tools?

hi,

i've been running pro tools practically every day since my last post (which was a while ago) and every single time i load it (many times per day), i have to unplug the Mbox2 before doing so, otherwise everything works fine except no sound coming out of the speakers. i then have to quit, unplug, plug in, and load pro tools again...

it can't be right... surely everyone can load pro tools without having to doing that?

it happens after a fresh reboot, or if i run anything inbetween closing and opening pro tools.

i've re-installed my windows 2 times and each time still the same.
and i've tried it on another system, with the same thing happening.

please help ?

also, when i'm recording live midi, pro tools quite frequently freezes and then causes a fatal error.
thank god for the backup feature...

i've been getting by, it's just a pain in the arse. i wanna shout n rave about pro tools, but not at the mo lol

thanks in advance

When you sat "load" Pro Tools do you mean relaunch the application or actually run the installer program again and reinstall it? If your relaunching it sounds like another application (Like internet Explorer or Windows Media Player or other audio application) may be using the Mbox for playback. Unplugging it and allowing the new hardware wizard to find it and then relaunching Pro Tools resets the device to Pro Tools. If your having to reinstall the Pro Tools program each time something is drastically wrong.

There have been quite a few issues with the nVidia 6xx series chipsets and Pro Tools also. your other error may be related to that.

thanks for your reply

sorry yeah, i meant relaunch (loading the program), not re-install.

if there has been problems with the 680i chipset i should imagine that that is my problem as it really can't be anything else.

like i said in my previous post, i tried running pro tools on another system which had the Nvidia GeForce 6100 chipset with exactly the same problem..

is there any solution to this? like a driver update?
i really hope so!!

Hi there,

I've been having the same problem ever since first getting my Mbox 2 Pro - every time I boot the PC (Win 7) I make sure the Mbox is unplugged, otherwise when I start PT I get no sound at all.

On the weekend I discovered something new!

If I open up Windows Sounds / Playback Devices, the Mbox 2 Pro is listed there as my default playback device. If I disable it in the list, my PT seems to load every time with full sound after reboots, relaunches, everything.

This is the first time since owning it that I can boot the computer and start Pro Tools without having to unplug/replug the Mbox 2 Pro. The downside is if I want to use the PC to play some non PT audio (like throw a CD in) I have to enable the Mbox in the Windows Playback Devices list again, but since the PC is mainly a dedicated PT machine, this doesn't bother me too much.

So it does sound like perhaps Windows (or IE or Media Player like was suggested) is somehow hanging onto the Mbox and stopping PT from using it? Maybe someone with more tech knowledge can chime in?

I would still love a permanent solution to the problem, but for now I can live with having no Windows audio playback, if it means I can stop all the unplugging/replugging.

Not sure if this sheds any light, but thought it may help.

Just for the record... a bit of extra info...
I'm using Win 7 64bit, PT8.0.4, Mbox 2 Pro (firewire, no power supply)
I uninstalled Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Media Player too while troubleshooting this.

I've experienced similar behavior when cold booting my win 7 system using LE 8.0.4. Note, this did not occur in 7.4 nor 8.0.3.

I am using the 680i chipset (but different motherboard -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188013) and I used to have an Mbox2 up until a few months ago. I don't remember ever having to do all that. Just thought I'd share that bit of info if it's of any help.
