Default Pro Tools 10 won't work on Mac El Capitan 10.11.6

Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me out. I recently had an issue with my mac hard drive and had to re-install OS El Capitan 10.11.6. I had to wipe my main bootable hard drive but I had an old hard drive which I keep my original Pro Tools 10 on. I had also found another download of an updated version of Pro Tools 10 which was Pro Tools 10.3.9 dmg. When I tried to install it again it came up with a message basically saying it doesn't recognize my operating system, which is strange because it worked on the same OS before my old hard drive crashed.

Is there a link on your Avid website that you could link me to which has a compatible version of Pro Tools 10? I still have my ilok key inserted.

Thank you kindly for your help

Luke

There is no supported version of PT10 for El Capitan.

Saying you had it running before was pure luck. I suspect you had an older macOS and did an in-situ update to a later macOS and fortunately for you, it continued to work.

Definitely not a supported config as can be seen by the compatibility chart I posted above.

Looking at the compatibility chart here, Protools 10.3.9 requires:
OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.7 - 10.6.8)
OS X Lion (10.7 - 10.7.5)
OS X Mountain Lion (10.8, 10.8.2-10.8.5)
and therefore will not run on El Capitan.

Likewise, El Capitan (specific versions) only worked with Protools 12.3 through 2018.12

It works fine on Maverick (10.9). Tried it on yosemite with no success.

Protools 10 has an OS Check in the installation Package which prevents the installation on a newer MacOS.

You need to change OS Check in the distribution file.

Google for "Installing Protools 10 on Macos Sierra (the right way)"

There is very good tutorial video how to edit the Protools 10 Installation Package to make it possible to install PT10 on newer versions of Macos...

Good luck

Thanks for that link. I'm just wondering if I upgraded to version 12.3 if it would be too much of a leap and is it a free upgrade? .. I don't want to upgrade my whole operating system again because I've got other software which is old and would probably not work if I updated my OS.
