Default mp3 conversion adding silence to files

I'm converting from aif to mp3, using both Peak and Pro Tools. In each software, silence is being added at the beginning and end of the audio file. I'm trying to create seamless loops, so this is a problem for me. Any known workaround?

No, since mp3s use temporal compression they are not sample accurate . . . you can't loop them like you can with an AIFF or WAV file.

Hi,
Ogg Vorbis and AAC don't have that problem, with WMA it's even worse. AFAIK the reason is the fixed frame size of MP3 and WMA files.
If there's a chance not to use MP3 in your application...

Kind regards

Mark

This is 'normal' for MP3's and, unfortunately, there's no way around it other than to trim off the silence...
