Default Working with LA Scoring Strings [LASS]

OK I've gotten past the Ooo's and Ahhhh's

I would like to be able to switch from Legato Strings to Spiccato but unsure of how to go about this!!!

I'm used to key switching but not sure how to set this up with kontakt!!!

I've just been layering the two techniques and getting good results but would like option of either at my fingertips

I'm I approaching this the wrong way or am I missing something

Thanks for your time and help!!!!!

Actually it's not mentioned in the manual...!

However, if you look through the forum, someone has posted a Kontakt script for creating keyswitching for LASS.

Works fine.

Generally though, Andrew has stated a few times that it's not the way he prefers to work, which is why there aren't any keyswitching multis included with the package. Something to do with how he presents files to his copyist... Which is fair enough.

It's not too complicated to get a keyswitch multi up and running though... But if you weren't already a full Kontakt user, and just using the player which comes with LASS, then I guess it would be hard to know where to start without the full-version manual!

Really? I'da sworn there's mention of keyswitching in there. I didn't look closely so I'll take your word for it.

I use separate instances for alternate LASS articulations so I haven't used keyswitching, although I do it with VSL's libraries, maybe because it's setup automatically (to an extent). Keyswitching is very common - what'r ya thinkin' Andrew?

Oh yeah... They do. I forgot about that (been using VSL's player for so long now).

But come to think of it, I SWEAR I've seen Andrew switching on the fly. How's he doing it if not with key switches? Mod wheel? It's not the sus pedal - that engages Kontakt's internal sequencer. Or did he set up a script that's not included with the standard instruments?

Could be the Mod wheel; I'm jus speculating tho because I've not used LASS before...

Not the Mod wheel, as that's just a volume controller (or rather "how hard the bow presses on the string"....)

Maybe Andrew was doing it old-school : Different patches on the master controller simply set to different MIDI channels?

The way LASS defaults with different patches incrementally setting themselves to different MIDI channels would make that pretty straightforward...

The mod wheel can be used to switch articulations (as VSL does), and not all LASS instruments use mod for volume, so it's at least plausible that that's how he's doing it. Whatever it is, he was switching on the fly, not switching MIDI channels. Maybe his controller is split to separate channels.
