Default How can i use 2 different pro tools subscriptions on the same computer?

I have one license for PT STUDIO that works with my ilok, i use this on my main computer or on my macbook, and recently bought a second PT ARTIST license (activated on the ilok cloud) with the plan of use that second license on my macbook when the main one are being used on my studio, to speed up editing, tuning and so on.

The thing is i can’t find a way to use the second license, switching between studio or artist as needed, are there any way of doing this? What am i missing?

I am paying for BOTH licenses so the way avid doesn’t take that in account is very annoying and uncomfortable.

Pro Tools will only operate from licenses it "sees" and IIRC will try to use the highest tier license it can. If you unplug the iLok or disconnect from the iLok cloud it will not use that license. Personally I would never trust the iLok cloud, I would be using two physical iLoks.

If both licenses are in the same iLok account and using iLok cloud this will not work. You would need to use two different iLok cloud accounts. This is a known limitation of iLok cloud, it is not just an Avid thing and I would have zero expectation this will change, iLok not being an end-user responsive company. This has been mentioned on DUC before. It is just one of the issues with iLok cloud, reliability being another. if this is your issue I would get one or more physical iLoks.

Actually,

You can have one license on a physical ilok and one license in the ilok cloud with both on the same ilok account. I do this on occasion when I just need to open Pro Tools without the physical ilok plugged in. As Darryl mentioned, the more efficient method is to have two physical iLoks. If you want to open the higher tier that’s on the ilok on a computer that’s using the lower tier ilok cloud license, you’ll need to close the cloud license first before launching pro tools. Then plug in the ilok and launch pro tools. It will see the higher tier physical license.

So its2loud... with both an iLok and cloud attached do you know if Pro Tools always goes for the cloud license first or the iLok first or the highest tier license? I don't normally use iLok cloud but when trying it out I thought I had seen it go for the higher tier license before but that might just have say been the one on the cloud.

my suggestion is, if you're not going to use them on 2 computers at the same time, stick with one license. Then 2 options, one is to activate that license on an iLok USB, then you just have to plug it on the computer you'd like to use Pro Tools on. Or activate on an iLok Cloud, you'll be prompted everytime you open Pro Tools and it's not activated on that computer's iLok cloud. That would take only a few clicks.

Hey Darryl,
In my experience, once you activate the cloud license on the machine, Pro Tools will continue to default to that cloud license even after you’ve plugged in a physical iLok. The only way I’ve managed to get Pro Tools to even see the physical iLok is to close the cloud license first. I’m not sure regarding tier priority since both my licenses are Ultimate. I honestly don’t think Pro Tools is looking to prioritize tiers, I think it’s just looking for a valid license and sees what it sees first. I can get confirmation on this if needed.
